Deborah T Colter is a contemporary abstract painter who lives on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. Deborah graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor Degree of Fine Arts in 1981. She has been a full-time studio artist since that time with work widely represented in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and overseas. Her work has been included in some powerful art collections including Adobe Systems, Biogen Corporation, J.W.Marriott, Cisco Systems, & Conner Strong Companies, among others.
Growing up with a cartoonist/architect father who had a ceaseless work ethic, his devotion to his craft strongly influenced Deborah’s own approach to her painting process.
Deborah T Colter practices fearless trust in her process of creating. She believes a painting needs to have rhythm, balance, harmony, life and a spark of magic. Creating something and seeing it transform into a piece alive with energy is an exciting form of that magic. Colter seeks to find order among chaos – a continual give and take that teeters between equilibrium and the breaking point.
